One Hundred Years of Brotherhood: The Centennial History of Lake Harriet Lodge No. 277

A history of Lake Harriet Lodge

“Taking the reader from early in the 20th century, just prior to World War I, and going along year by year to examine the evolution and brotherly activities of Lake Harriet Lodge, this is a history of Masonry during the period as well as one particular lodge. Linden Hills on the shores of Lake Harriet was a "suburban" neighborhood in 1914 and right on the trolley line (so who needed a parking lot?). A local doctor and some businessmen felt that the neighborhood on the Lakes was big enough to need a lodge of its own and received a charter.

In 2014, after three or four generations, the brothers of Lake Harriet Lodge celebrated their centennial with a fantastic Masonic banquet, and also a display of Lodge artifacts from the archives.  They also celebrated with a big remodel of the old new lodge building on France Avenue to bring its style up to date.  And this entertaining and informative book. The brothers are still dedicated to the craft and bringing young men to light in Masonry, and now you can puzzle over their history and mysteries along with the author and compiler, Dr. James Maertens, otherwise known as Brother Owl.  376 pages in Full Color.  $33.00 if you buy it from the Lodge.”

About the Author

Bro. James Maertens is a Master Mason and Brother of Lake Harriet Lodge since 2007. His PhD is in English. He has served as Lodge Education Officer, Librarian and Historian, as well as Steward and Junior Deacon. Born in Minneapolis 15 blocks from the original Lake Harriet Temple, he now lives only two blocks away from the newly renovated Masonic Centre. He loves Linden Hills, the enchanted land between the lakes.
