SENIOR warden

Name: Tyler Moe-Slepica

Hometown: Crosby-Ironton, MN

Date Raised: I was raised at Braden Lodge No. 168 in Northeast Minneapolis in the spring of 2015 where I was introduced to the Brotherhood through exceptional ritual and thoughtful fellowship.

Appendant Bodies/Dual Memberships/Masonic Activities:
After a move brought me closer to the Lodge by the Lakes, I joined the “Rough Ashlars” softball team and was pretty quick to affiliate my membership with Lake Harriet.

What prompted you to join Freemasonry?
Though not the son of a Freemason, my Great-Grandfather, Magnus was initiated into the Fraternity in 1918 at Equality Lodge in Minneota, MN where he was active with his fellow “Icelandic” Brethren until his death in 1971.

My interest in the craft peaked through a number of mentions in popular culture and learning of my Masonic heritage, I felt nudged to seek out a lodge for membership. Around that same time I just so happened to identify a Brother at my neighbourhood hardware store by noticing the unmistakable square and compasses on his ring. He invited me to a local pub to learn more and we ended up chatting over a few pints for something like three or four hours I just knew I wanted to join.

Favorite Masonic Memory: Participating in the the cornerstone ceremony for the University of Minnesota Masonic Cancer Center Clinic in 2016 presided over by Lake Harriet's own, John R. Gann P.G.M. It was distinctly memorable as my wife Laura joined me for the occasion. It was her first Masonic event and just so happened that the cancer center was one of the many rotations she had during medical school. It just felt incredibly special for me to in some small way, to share in this philanthropic and healing work to improve the lives of those in our community.

Why is Freemasonry still relevant after 300 years?: Most of us seek to surround ourselves with choir members who sing a familiar tune but Freemasonry is the only group I’ve joined who’s primary goal is to show men of differing backgrounds and beliefs systems that there’s much more they can agree on than they don’t. I’ve learned much from my Brothers at the lodge and pray I do the same for them. For these simple reasons, our fraternity is timeless.

Short Bio: I live in Minnetonka with my wife Laura, our children, Sølveig and Ingrid and our two cats. I enjoy playing men’s league hockey, paddling the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, and am a passionate supporter of Minnesota United Football Club.
