Scottish Rite brethren are welcome to participate with those who are taking their Scottish Rite degrees for the first time at the Minneapolis Valley, at Franklin and Dupont Ave. So. This date marks the beginning of the Spring degree cycle.
The degrees begin tonight at 6PM, with dinner at 5PM. Bring your dues card to show at the door. Brothers, our Minneapolis Valley is a treasure, being only one of a few SR valleys in the nation to present all 29 degrees of the Scottish Rite (4th thru 32) in full theatrical form, and they do it twice per year.
Tonight's degrees are the 4th, 5th and 6th:
4th Degree: Secret Master - Duties: Practice silence, obedience, fidelity. Lessons: The teachings of masonry are not to be taken lightly. Learning far outlasts physical monuments. Duties are not to be performed expecting reward – but expecting personal satisfaction.
5th Degree: Perfect Master - Duties: Be industrious and honest. Lessons: Life is uncertain; death may call at any time. The noblest portion of humanity is virtue for virtue’s sake.
6th Degree: Intimate Secretary - Duties: Be zealous, faithful, disinterested and benevolent. Act the peacemaker. Lesson: Zeal and fidelity to duty are always rewarded.
In case you hadn't heard, petition fees for the degrees are just $395. This includes at least 15 meals, and two books. A Scottish Rite ring and hat is optional. Contact the Rite secretary, Ken Hill, at (612) 871-1500 for more information, or visit their website, here.
Read about the Scottish Rite here. It's often called "the college of Masonry" for its deeper dive into the Masonic principles first introduced in the first three degrees of Freemasonry. Scottish Rite degrees allow time for group discussion on how our ideals have impacted many good and great men in history, weaving our impact into the Enlightenment and Western Civilization itself.
