S.A.G.E.S
Students of Arcane Geometry and Esoteric Symbolism
The SAGES is a group of brothers who love books and discussing Masonic ideas. We get together on the 4th Monday of each month at the Lake Harriet Masonic Center to discuss a book that we have chosen to read. The books range from Masonic history to esoteric and symbolic interpretations of the Craft and its rituals.
The group tries not to be stuffy and to just enjoy a lively discussion over refreshments in the lounge. The goal is friendly philosophizing with brothers.
Past reads have included:
Tobias Churton, The Golden Builders
Joseph Fort Newton, The Builders
Robert Uzzel, Eliphas Levi and the Kabbalah
W. L. Wilmshurst's The Meaning of Masonry.
Plato's Phaedo.
Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol
Robert Lomas's book, The Secret Science of Masonic Initiation.
Our current read is available online: Symbolical Masonry by H. L. Haywood
http://www.sacred-texts.com/mas/syma/index.htm
Haywood was the editor of The Builder Magazine. His book, Symbolical Masonry is a nice mixture of history and philosophy, each chapter discussing an aspect of the Masonic journey through the three degrees.
